The venerable Abraham Lincoln left many legacies for our city, state, and nation. None was more significant than his unwavering commitment to equal access to justice. The CBF Abraham Lincoln Circle of Justice is a prestigious group of lawyers, judges and other dedicated legal professionals who carry on Lincoln’s legacy.
Lincoln Circle members have embraced their role as leaders in the fight to ensure that everyone in the Chicago area has access to justice by making particularly generous financial commitments. Their contributions uniquely position the CBF to make long-term improvements to our community’s pro bono and legal aid system. The Lincoln Circle gives the CBF the flexibility to address emerging needs as they develop and provide the venture capital that makes it possible for the CBF to aggressively pursue innovative projects that can significantly expand the availability of legal assistance for people in need. Just two examples of the systemic work made possible by Lincoln Circle contributions are the CBF’s leadership in advocating for sufficient government funding for legal aid and related access to justice initiatives, and addressing emerging systemic issues such as the current surge in foreclosures.

The Anderson 25 to 100 Challenge
Kimball R. Anderson and his wife Karen Gatsis Anderson recently announced a $25,000 challenge gift to the CBF Lincoln Circle of Justice. In addition to showing their commitment to the critical systemic work of the CBF, the Andersons see this gift as a way to help significantly expand the Lincoln Circle by inspiring other committed lawyers to become members. “We know firsthand the impact the CBF has had working to improve access to our community’s justice system, and we want to encourage others to join the Lincoln Circle in a way that will extend the impact of everyone’s gifts.”
There are currently 78 Lincoln Circle members, and the Andersons’ challenge is designed to inspire the surpassing of the 100 member mark. For each new or renewed pledge to the Lincoln Circle, Kimball and Karen will contribute a gift of $1,000, up to $25,000 total.
Kimball believes that “the CBF Lincoln Circle is a unique opportunity for dedicated lawyers to embrace their role as leaders in the fight for equal justice. Our challenge is an invitation for others to join us in making a lasting commitment to bring about real change in the lives of people who depend on the legal system for their safety, security and a chance for a better life.”
